British fishing — which has put seafood on our tables since the nation’s earliest origins — is in a terrible state. Another political “gift” from traitor politicians. The facts: since the 1980s the number of fishermen has fallen from 25,000 to c. 10,000. The number of fishing vessels has declined from 10,000 to c. 5,400. We have a trade deficit of around 316,000 tonnes. Although fishing accounts for only 0.03% of our GDP, the trade and supply of seafood is more than just another economic factor. An independent UK must be able to supply the bulk of its own food. Otherwise we would have to rely on the rest of the world. The two 20th-century wars proved how blockades could potentially starve our island nation into submission.
Let us not forget the courage and spirit of British fishermen through the ages. We should protect and nurture their interests, their families and their unique coastal communities.
The National Problems with British Fishing
- Decimated or depleted stocks (the picture varies among different forms of marine life).
- Ongoing “Brexit” betrayals and foreign vessels still in British waters.
- Heavy bottom trawling, exceeded fishing limits and illegal dumping.
- UK governments going back to Thatcher have shown minimal interest in our fishing fleets and communities, and virtually no plans for the development of British fishing.
The National (NHPUK) Solutions
Simple: a firm policy of economic nationalism that takes account of science and the unique ecosystems of British coastal waters.
- We will extend the fishing limit, for the exclusive use of British fishing fleets, to 200 miles. Where the gap between UK territory and another nation is less than 200 miles, we will extend the limit halfway to the neighbouring nation’s coastline. Under a dubious agreement enacted by the UK government, EU vessels can still fish in British territorial waters until June 2038. Naturally, we will reverse this treasonous decision. We will also aim to ensure that our own fishing vessels (and related products) are designed and built in Britain — another boost for UK manufacturing.
- The creation of a specialist government unit with the task of examining issues surrounding types of trawl, exceeded limits and illegal dumping. New rules will be rigorously enforced to protect British fishing and keep the industry in tune with Mother Nature.
- We will develop a strong protected home market for British seafood through selective import controls. A Nationalist government will have a National Plan for British fishing, including the necessary political guidance as well as technical and financial support.
If we want a truly sovereign country, we need food for the nation that we primarily supply and obtain ourselves.
Along with farms and factories, let us revitalise fishing as one of the basics of an independent Great Britain.
